NSW: Opp calls for urgent meeting with Carr over terror bill

The New South Wales opposition has called for an urgent meeting with Premier BOB CARRto discuss bi-partisan support for police anti-terrorist powers.

Opposition leader JOHN BROGDEN says his party will support the new bill -- but he hopesthe government will agree to two amendments.

The first is to ensure that Police Minister MICHAEL COSTA is accountable to the IndependentCommission Against Corruption under the new laws.

And the second is to give police special powers to act for seven days before and sevendays after a terrorist attack -- not just for 24 to 48 hours after.

Mr BROGDEN says he wants to meet Mr CARR today to ensure genuine bi-partisan supportto see the bill through the house quickly.

But Mr CARR has already stated he won't accept any amendments to the bill.
